Founder’s Message
The inspiration for mentorship comes from my late father David Kamau Irungu (1924-2008) who was a mentor per excellence, an educator, counsellor and leader. But my own career and experience as an educationist have taught me that being a good teacher is a good thing but mastering the skill of mentorship is the ultimate in passing knowledge, skills, values and experience from our generation to the one after us. I love it when my former students remind me that I taught them TOK, but I am humbled when a student tells me that the environment I created in my TOK classes taught them invaluable lessons.

Such a comment suggests something beyond passing facts and concepts; it includes empowering students to discover their own voices in any conversation. It consists in teaching ‘a way of doing things’, teaching a young person how to effectively participate in a particular conversation called education; this conversation extends beyond the classes and lecture halls into the streets, industry and into the wild as people interaction with their environment.Edumentor is my way of merging the twin concerns of imparting knowledge and mentoring learners to take over the reins of their teachers.
This we have not done very well in the past as a generation but this is a good time and place to start; Edumentor is my way of taking the first step, my contribution to this conversation. I believe that the next nine hundred and ninety nine miles of the journey will be a wonderful and fruitful journey.And finally, I invite you to make the journey with us as an IB student in one of our programmes, as an IB parent or guardian, a member of staff, partner or as our business associate, Welcome once again!
